Working at a camera rental house provides an invaluable foundation learning the ins and outs of camera gear, and understanding the relationship between the production pipeline and on set camera crew during prep, shoot and wrap.  These skills can be taken into a fulfilling long term film adjacent career in camera, or brought forward to an on set role in the camera department.

Learn more about how you could take part in paid internships at SIM, one of the leading camera rental house companies in Canada as we speak with Steve Demeter, Director of Business Development and Euan Bingham, ICG 669 2nd AC and SIM alumni.

Steve Demeter

Steve Demeter

Born and raised in Toronto, ON, Steve started his career in film in 1988 working for the lighting, and grip division of Panavision, in their service department. Over the years, he also managed to work freelance in lighting, grip, and camera departments before gaining enough experience to join the Canadian Society of Cinematographers in 1991. Using the knowledge he gained at Panavision, Steve was able to join the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers that same year. In 2009, an opportunity came up to move to Sim to manage the camera department, and work toward his current position as Director of Business Development, Western Canada. Based out of the Vancouver office, Steve is active in the Calgary, and Los Angeles markets as well, and his professional memberships include MPPIA, CPAWC, SMPTE, and the CSC.
