For short films (live-action and animated) must meet the following:
Eligibility:
- Canadian Production: Must be a Canadian or co-production.
- First Submission: Must not have competed in previous Canadian Screen Awards or Prix Gémeaux.
- Exhibition Period: Screened between January 1, 2024, and March 31, 2025.
Qualifying Screenings:
- Commercial: At least one theatrical screening in Canada or release on an approved SVOD platform.
- Festivals: Acceptance into at least two approved Canadian festivals. Eligible Festivals & Online Platforms
- International: Winning a “Best of” award at an approved international festival also qualifies.
Award Categories:
- Best Live Action Short Drama: Credits for Producer, Director, and Screenwriter.
- Best Animated Short: Credits for Producer and Director.
- Performance in a Live Action Short Drama: Performer in a credited role.
Entry Requirements:
- Deadline: October 28, 2024.
- Materials: Full film upload, screen credits, synopsis (60 words in both languages), promotional images, and confirmation letters for screenings.
The Equity & Inclusion Fund for the Canadian Screen Awards 2025 is a financial assistance program designed to cover submission fees for underrepresented industry professionals. Its goal is to remove cost barriers for those wishing to participate in the Canadian Screen Awards.
- Who it’s for: Primarily for Black, Indigenous, persons of color, people with disabilities, and 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals.
- What it covers: Needs-based assistance to help pay for the submission fees to enter the awards.
- Application Dates: Opens on September 23, 2024, and closes on October 18, 2024.
It’s a targeted initiative to support inclusion and diversity in the Canadian screen industry by reducing financial barriers.
