The Directors Guild of Canada, BC District Council (DGC BC) is a labour organization representing key creative and logistical personnel in the film and television industry in British Columbia. The DGC BC Collective Agreement covers Directors, Production Management, Assistant Director and Locations Departments, as well as Production Assistants.
About the Position: Manager of Director Relations
We are seeking a knowledgeable and professional team player to join us in our office at 2985 Virtual Way, Vancouver. This is a senior level position that’s full-time and will involve travel including to the US. The primary goal of this position will be to work towards improved statistical changes to the volume of Canadian Directors hired on service produced TV Series and to oversee and administer the new language within the collective agreement that pertains to the hiring of BC Directors.
Job Duties include the following:
- Collaborate with the DGC BC team to identify clear goals and create a comprehensive outreach plan with a roadmap to increase awareness and build an evergreen community in Los Angeles for Canadian Directors.
- Work with the DGC BC team to identify and aggregate the widest possible list of decision makers based in LA who are involved in the hiring process of BC directors including executives, showrunners and producers, as well anyone who has shown interest in supporting BCbased director’s careers.
- Maintain a current and up to date contact list of the above studio Executives including high level notes regarding all meetings and discussions.
- Continuously research and learn what obstacles are inhibiting Decision Makers from hiring BC directors and report them back to the DGC BC with suggested solutions.
- Track new and returning TV Series productions to coordinate Director Member meetings.
- Setup regular meetings for the purpose of discussing employment of Canadian Directors on current, new or returning TV series shot in BC.
- Meetings should be set as far in advance as possible with goal of meeting before all Directors have been booked or chosen for the series.
- Follow up meetings should be set to encourage the hiring of Canadian Directors and to track effectiveness.
- Promote and demonstrate directors.ca as required.
- Collect data of studio contacts and meetings and cross reference which of those contacts have resulted in meetings with Director Members.
- Working with the Directors Caucus, establish television director development programs that support experienced, as well as emerging, DGC BC Directors.
- Working with the Directors Caucus, establish television director development programs that support emerging DGC BC Directors from historically disadvantaged and underrepresented groups.
- Promoting and encouraging DGC BC Directors to participate in existing studio Director Development programs.
- Attend meetings, events, etc. as required to network with DGC BC Director Members.
- Encourage Director Members to update their profiles on directors.ca.
- Provide diversity codes to studios or productions with established equity programs via DGC BC Director Member Services Person and assist in tracking of same.
- Participate in bargaining and related prep that pertains to Canadian Director issues.
- Travel as required to maintain relationships with decision makers and to plan events.
- Suggesting possible connections for Meet Your Match and other events
- Nurture relationships with Director Agents and Managers.
- On an annual basis, collaborate with the national organization to review and assist in creation of the Directors Statistics report
- On a monthly basis meet with Senior DGC BC Staff to discuss progress including new relationships, follow ups, new research and results of meetings.
- The duties and responsibilities of this role may change and evolve as the role develops.

- This is a senior level staff position and will include an expense account for travel and business expenditures.
- Annual salary between $110 – $125K.

The successful candidate will be poised and highly confident. Able to connect at all levels of organizational staff with our, mostly US based, studio clients including top level executives. They will be skilled at engaging in persuasive, effective communication and should be prepared to offer references to support these skills. An aptitude for managing and presenting statistics along with Microsoft Excel skills would be an asset.
