St. John’s International Women’s Film Festival: Call for Treasurer, Board of Directors

(SJIWFF) seeks a dedicated and knowledgeable individual to join our Board of Directors as Treasurer. This volunteer position is crucial in supporting the financial oversight and strategic planning of one of Canada’s longest-running and most influential film festivals.

SJIWFF is Canada’s longest-running women’s film festival and one of the longest-running globally. Established with a bold vision of advancing gender equity in the screen industries, SJIWFF has championed the creative work of women and gender-diverse artists worldwide since 1989. A respected leader in the sector with growing accolades, SJIWFF brings critical artist development and creative vitality to Newfoundland and Labrador.

Treasurer Responsibilities

  • Financial Oversight: Work closely with the Executive Director, Office Manager, and Finance Committee to ensure the organization’s financial health.
  • Budget & Reporting: Review financial reports and budgets to ensure transparency and accuracy.
  • Governance & Compliance: Ensure financial policies align with best practices for not-for-profit governance.
  • Strategic Planning: Provide financial insight to support organizational growth and sustainability.
  • Board Engagement: Attend and contribute to board meetings and special events.

Ideal Candidate

  • Experience in financial management, accounting, or not-for-profit finance.
  • A CPA designation or equivalent experience (preferred but not required).
  • Knowledge of not-for-profit financial structures and compliance.
  • Passion for arts, culture, and gender equity.
  • Previous board experience is ideal but not a prerequisite. We value passion, commitment, and a willingness to contribute to our organization’s success.

Time Commitment & Term

  • All Board positions are flexible 3-year terms.
  • Board meetings occur quarterly, with additional committee meetings as needed.
  • Estimated commitment: 4-6 hours per month.
  • Attend and contribute to key Festival events (e.g., October Festival).
  • Serve as an ambassador for the organization, representing its mission and values.
  • People outside St. John’s (including out-of-province) are welcome to apply.
