The Canada Feature Film Fund (CFFF) aims to enhance the long-term sustainability of the Canadian audiovisual industry by increasing visibility, improving audience access, and stimulating demand for Canadian content. It supports marketing and promotion activities for Canadian content and talent, focusing on theatrical accessibility and digital distribution to expand the reach of Canadian productions nationally and internationally.

Eligibility Criteria for Applicants:

  • Applicants must be Canadian-controlled corporations based in Canada.
  • Distribution companies or production companies actively engaged in Canadian audiovisual activities are eligible.
  • Key personnel must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents.
  • Distribution companies must demonstrate expertise and commitment to distributing Canadian feature films.

Eligibility Criteria for Projects:

  • Projects must be feature-length films funded at production or post-production stage by Telefilm or meet Canadian Audiovisual Certification Office (CAVCO) criteria.
  • Theatrical release within 6 months of application is required.
  • Projects must adhere to Canadian broadcast standards and not contain unlawful content.

Selection Process:

  • Emphasis on strategic marketing and distribution plans.
  • Preference given to projects financed by Telefilm at production stage.

Terms of Funding:

  • Financial support provided as non-interest bearing advances.
  • Telefilm financing capped at 75% of eligible Canadian marketing costs.
  • Versioning assistance available for projects meeting specific criteria.

Repayment:

  • Repayment schedules vary based on production budgets.
  • Telefilm recoups financing through tiers based on project revenues.

Application Process:

  • All applications must be submitted online through Dialogue.
  • Sufficient lead time required for meaningful consultation and campaign planning.

  • Compliance with guidelines does not guarantee funding.
  • Telefilm has discretion in interpretation and application of guidelines.
  • All Telefilm programs are subject to fund availability.

 

Telefilm’s support is provided as non-interest bearing advances, capped at 75% of eligible Canadian marketing costs for distribution companies. For production companies or distribution companies not qualifying as eligible distribution companies, the support is the lesser of 75% of eligible Canadian marketing costs or $75,000. This support aims to enhance the long-term sustainability of the Canadian audiovisual industry by increasing visibility, improving audience access, and stimulating demand for Canadian content.
