MPIO Enhanced Access Facilitated Session (Sponsored by IATSE891)

This 4-hr facilitated session is the prerequisite for the online Motion Picture Industry Orientation (MPIO) Exam administered by Actsafe Safety Association, and provides a review of the E-Learning Module including deeper discussions about the nature of the B.C. film industry, first day on the job, set terminology, set etiquette, basic safety, getting hired, and communication skills.

This inclusive delivery of the standard MPIO will include real-time speech to text captioning, provided by professionals from Island Deaf and Hard of Hearing Centre.  While this edition of the MPIO may particularly benefit individuals with specific accessibility, learning, and language needs; everyone is welcome.

Developed in partnership between Creative BC, Screen BC and industry labor organizations, this comprehensive, mandatory course provides you with the information you need to know before working on a film set. The MPIO is just one step in a series of additional courses or programs which will be required by different associations, guilds and unions in order to make your entry into the motion picture/television industry.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

 

  • Establishes a welcoming tone to the motion picture industry while acknowledging historic milestones and barriers.
  • Demystifies the first day on the job.
  • Examines the essential interpersonal, communication, and team skills required for being successful while working in the industry.
  • Practices how to read a call sheet.
  • Practices the basics of using a walkie talkie on set including common phases and expressions.
  • Identifies top industry expectations, the benefits and challenges of working in the motion picture industry.
  • Provides time to review health and safety risks while working on set and examines employer and worker safety responsibilities.
  • Discusses options for finding work in the motion picture industry.
  • Offers time for questions and answers related to the E-learning Module and navigating the industry in general.
