The Empowered Filmmaker is an indigenous-focused film program designed to take individuals with no prior knowledge in filmmaking and shape them into self-sufficient, nimble and powerful media content creators. Since 2017, Empowered Filmmaker has trained over 645 filmmakers to produce 214 films by providing training, equipment and support.
Led by professional filmmaker Farhan Umedaly, participants take part in a five-day intensive filmmaking workshop, gaining the skills and confidence to become effective media content creators, even with no prior experience. At the end of each program is a community film festival complete with awards, camera giveaways and more!
