CBC, CAVCO, and CMPA are hosting the 9th season of One Stop Business Workshop, a series of FREE vitural information sessions that introduce emerging independent producers and content creators from traditionally underrepresented groups in the industry (Indigenous, Black, people of colour, women 2SLGBTQIA+, and people with disabilities) to topics related to the business and financing of TV, film and original digital content.

Relocating to a new country is a big step, and navigating a new creative industry can feel overwhelming. That’s why we’re hosting three sessions specifically designed for new Canadians. Whether you are looking for guidance or connection, we’ll be breaking down exactly how to navigate life as a creator in Canada. Our three-day series begins on Tuesday, May 19, with a session focused on getting you oriented, highting programs that help build a solid professional foundation, and connecting with the local creative community. On Wednesday, May 20, we will dive into the financial side of the industry by exploring available funding and resources. We conclude our series on Thursday, May 21, by covering essential production basics, including how to engage with unions and guilds, accessibility requirements, music rights, and the basics of industry insurance.

Our moderator for all three sessions is the amazing Shaista Roshan, a CSA nominated producer, and once newcomer to Canada.

Each session will run about an hour and have some time remaining for audience Q&A. The webinars will be recorded and available to registrants after each session. So if you can’t make it during the live webinar, you can access the recordings a few days after the session. If you want to catch up on any of the sessions from previous seasons, check them out on the One Stop Business Workshop site.

ASL, Closed Captioning, and French translation will be available during the live sessions. If you require any of the mentioned accommodations, please be sure to join the Zoom session.
