Vertical microdramas are reshaping entertainment—fast, compelling stories made for a modern audience. These are bite-sized episodes with big emotions, built to be watched on smartphones.
In this two-day bootcamp led by industry experts, learn how microdramas are made and why they are taking off in Vancouver.
Saturday, July 11th, 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.
We’ll open with a panel discussion featuring filmmakers immersed in the verticals industry. Attendees will then join the workshop for their chosen specialization (acting, directing, or writing) and begin a deep dive into making a microdrama.
Sunday, July 12th, 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.
Attendees will return for a “production day,” where the process of making a microdrama will unfold.
Specializations:
Acting (on campus): Learn to deliver authentic, high-impact performances tailored to the fast-paced world of vertical microdrama. Saturday’s session will close with an audition, and select attendees will star in Sunday’s film.
Directing (on campus): Discover behind-the-camera methods for creating cinematic impact, emotional intensity, and visual storytelling within the vertical-screen format. Select attendees will do the hands-on work of making the film Sunday.
Writing (online): A crash course in crafting compelling, cliffhanger-driven stories that captivate audiences in episodes lasting just minutes. Saturday’s sessin will close with the selection of an attendee’s script which will be used in Sunday’s production.
*All attendees are welcomed to join Sunday’s verticals filming session. Select attendees will have their work featured, be chosen to act in, or direct Sunday’s production.

For Directing and Acting, your workshops will take place at 151 Cordova Street, Vancouver, BC V6B 5K3.
For Writing, your workshop will take place online. You will have remote streaming access to the panel discussion. (You’re also welcome to attend the panel in-person).
