The Sustainable Entertainment Society’s Sustainability Practitioners Internship Program is accepting applications for Cohort 2.
SPIP is a multidimensional capacity-building program designed to train, certify, and advance sustainability professionals in Canada’s screen-based entertainment industry. The program supports participants in building the knowledge, credentials, and network needed to support low-carbon production, from set to system.
The program is structured in two phases. Phase 1, Fundamentals, runs from October to December 2026 and focuses on sustainability frameworks, production practices, tools and guides, low-carbon production, communications, and Canadian industry standards. Participants who complete Phase 1 are added to the national SPIP Directory and promoted to producers, studios, and coordinators across Canada.
Phase 2, Advanced Learning & Production Placements, runs from February to August 2027 and includes advanced learning, community meetings, and in-the-field work experience, job shadowing, and internship placements.
SPIP may be a fit for experienced producers who want to formalize their sustainability practice, as well as entertainment professionals who are pivoting toward sustainability roles for the first time. Learning topics include carbon calculation, sustainable budgeting, climate storytelling, circular design, cost-benefit analysis, on-set communications, Canadian policy frameworks, prep-to-wrap greening, broadcaster standards, and vendor and funder ecosystems.
Participants are required to complete free virtual training during Phase 1, including Reel Green, Ontario Green Screen, BAFTA/albert, On Tourne Vert, and USGBC-CA Sustainable Production for Entertainment training.
