The Vancouver Short Film Festival is hiring three Festival Co-Directors to join its leadership team and help shape the 2027 festival.
Since 2005, VSFF has supported Canadian short filmmakers, documentarians, and animation artists by creating space to share their work, connect with audiences, and build community within the Canadian film sector.
The next festival will take place in person in Vancouver in Spring / Early Summer 2027, with 40–50 short films and more than $40,000 in cash and prizes.
Open roles include:
- Co-Director, Programming
The Programming Co-Director leads the team that selects what audiences will see at VSFF. This role oversees submissions, selection, the Programming Committee, pre-screeners, filmmaker communication, and the overall programming direction of the festival. The role also supports industry programming such as panels, keynotes, roundtables, special screenings, and other events. VSFF is looking for someone with at least three years of experience in film programming, film/media creation or critique, film festival production, or a related area. - Co-Director, Development & Communication
The Development & Communication Co-Director leads fundraising, sponsorships, grants, marketing, and communications. This role helps build relationships with sponsors and partners, pursue funding opportunities, promote the festival and its films, and grow VSFF’s profile in the community. VSFF is looking for someone with experience in communications, fundraising, event management, or a related field. - Co-Director, Operations
The Operations Co-Director is the festival’s project manager and operational lead. This role oversees festival production, venues, box office, scheduling, event operations, administration, and finances. VSFF is looking for someone with at least three years of experience in event management, film festival or film production, project management, or a related area.
All three positions run from September 2026 through August 2027. The time commitment varies throughout the year, generally ranging from 5–25 hours per week depending on the festival cycle.
Most work can be done remotely, but there will be occasional meetings and events in Vancouver. All three Co-Directors must be in Vancouver for the 2027 festival, which will take place in May 2027.
These are volunteer positions with a $500 honorarium. The roles offer a hands-on opportunity to help build the future of Vancouver’s independent film community and support Canadian short films and filmmakers.
