Kirsten Hansen, Roslyn Muir, and Miriam van Emst have written features for television in a range of genres. Join them and moderator Heather Hawthorn Doyle who will lead this conversation, covering topics ranging from breaking in, to meeting audience expectations, and catching the attention of broadcasters and producers.

Kirsten Hansen – Panelist

Kirsten is an award-winning Writer, Director, Producer based out of Vancouver, BC. Her writing credits include the #1 Netflix film, Irish Wish, which Kirsten also executive produced, as well as Love on the SlopesReturn to Christmas CreekLove Under the RainbowChristmas On My MindCross Country ChristmasNantucket Noel (Hallmark Channel), and co-writer of Pup StarMonkey UpRussell Madness (Netflix). Kirsten executive produced A Tale of Two Christmases (Hallmark), was the co-executive producer/writer of Chesapeake Shores (Seasons 1-4, Hallmark) and When Hope Calls (Season 2, Hallmark/Great American Media). Kirsten’s directing credits include Nantucket Noel and A Family for the Holidays (Lifetime).

Roslyn Muir – Panelist

Roslyn Muir is an author and multi-genre, award-winning screenwriter currently in development on a Hallmark rom-com. She was a writer on the Global/CBS one-hour drama, Ransom, now on Netflix, and has written several movies that have aired on Lifetime TV and internationally. Muir also wrote and produced the dramatic feature film, The Birdwatcher, and has authored a non-fiction screenwriting book, Writing a TV Movie: An Insider’s Guide to Launching a Screenwriting Career. (Three Ocean Press, 2021.) She has written a middle-grade fantasy book series, The Chimera’s Apprentice, and has an MFA from UBC’s School of Creative Writing.

Miriam van Emst – Panelist

A self-proclaimed cinephile with a penchant for anything Richard Curtis or Agatha Christie, Miriam van Emst is a Writer, Director, and Producer from the Netherlands and the UK, living in Vancouver, Canada. Her first feature Confessions Of a Cam Girl premiered on Lifetime earlier this year. She is currently working on two Hallmark projects, and a book adaptation for The CW and Bell Media. Her other credits include Associate Producer on The Watchful Eye (ABC/Disney+), Research Producer on Our War (The History Channel) and Story Intern / Writer’s Assistant on Family Law S.2-3 (The CW). Her work has spanned three continents, from producing and directing scripted content for platforms like Amazon and Unilever to documentaries for UN Women and the Gates Foundation.

Heather Hawthorn Doyle – Moderator

A three-time Canadian Screen Award nominee (twice for Best TV Movie Director) and five-time Leo Award winner, Director/Producer Heather Hawthorn Doyle got her start in multi-camera television – and that led to her first scripted directing credit on the sitcom Some Assembly Required. Since then, she’s directed on three other kids’ television series and more than a dozen TV Movies for UPTV, Lifetime and Hallmark including Return to Sender a backdoor pilot for a mystery series, A Scottish Love Scheme filmed entirely in Scotland and her latest film Confessions of a Christmas Letter a comedy starring Angela Kinsey (Angela from The Office).
