Festival de Cannes Cinéma de Demain is accepting applications for the 53rd session of The Résidence, taking place in Paris from March 15 to July 31, 2027.
The Résidence welcomes emerging international directors to dedicate four-and-a-half months to developing the screenplay for their first or second feature-length fiction film.
Selected filmmakers receive accommodation in the heart of Paris, personalized support throughout the screenwriting process, consultations on project development and the transition toward production, and opportunities to meet film industry professionals.
The program also includes collective forums exploring filmmaking and European co-production systems, as well as opportunities for filmmakers to develop industry relationships. Projects developed through the Résidence are presented to producers and distributors through industry meetings connected to festivals including Rotterdam, Locarno, and Cannes.
Each year, the 12 filmmakers from the program’s two sessions also present their projects during the Festival de Cannes. Following the presentations, the CNC awards one filmmaker from each session a €5,000 grant.
Eligibility includes:
- Applicants must not be citizens or residents of France.
- Applicants must have directed one or more short films and no more than one feature film.
- A previous short film or first feature must have been selected at a Category A festival, including festivals such as Cannes, Berlin, Venice, Toronto, Busan, San Sebastian, Rotterdam, Sundance, or Clermont-Ferrand.
- Applicants must be developing their first or second feature-length fiction film.
- Applicants must be under 35 years old on the first day of the session.
- Applicants must be fluent in English or French.
- Selected filmmakers must live at the Résidence in Paris for the full duration of the session.
Application materials include a minimum 10-page treatment in English or French, synopsis, statement of intent, mood board, CV, proof of identity, and previous film work.
