Learn on-set acting from acclaimed actor Gil Bellows – Sept. 25-27 at VFS.
Vancouver Film School’s Exclusive Scene Study is a recurring workshop series for aspiring & established actors to collaborate with actor & Emmy-winning producer Gil Bellows to refine their craft. Through intensive scene work, live direction, and professional feedback, participants will deepen their understanding of performance, emotional connection, and camera-ready technique.
Can’t make the September event? Gil will be returning October 16-18 and November 6-8 for additional Scene Study workshops.
GIL BELLOWS
After graduating from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, Bellows gained wide attention for his performance as Tommy in The Shawshank Redemption. On television, Bellows is best known for playing Billy Thomas, the romantic lead in Ally McBeal, which earned him a Screen Actors Guild Award. As a producer, Bellows has several notable accomplishments, including Temple Grandin, which earned him an Emmy and a Peabody.
WHAT TO EXPECT AT THE SCENE STUDY:
You may register as either an Observer or an Advanced Acting Participant. All registrants will attend a short meet & greet with Gil on the Friday for an overview over the event.
On Saturday, Advanced Acting Participants will workshop & rehearse their scenes with Gil in preparation for their on-camera performances on Sunday.
Advanced Acting Participant:
- You’ll need to select a short scene in advance which you’ll use for your scene study with Gil.
- Apply with an acting partner (as a duo) OR solo. If applying solo, VFS will pair you with a partner.
- Must have prior acting training/experience and submit an audition tape (a one-minute contemporary film monologue/dialogue).
Observer:
- Watch all aspects of the scene study workshops & final performances.
- Have occasional opportunities to ask questions and provide insight during the performances.
