BC is one of Canada’s busiest production centres and what’s needed is sustained support for filmmakers building original visions and sustainable careers. As a response, beginning in 2026, the Institute expands VIFF’s commitment beyond the fall festival, transforming its development programs into a continuous model for creative growth, professional training, and international connection for emerging and established equity-deserving filmmakers and screen creatives across the country.
Applications are now open for three inaugural cohorts:
- Animation Cohort — for independent, author-driven animators
- Documentary Cohort — for bold and boundary-pushing nonfiction creators
- Creative Business Cohort — for producers and creative leads building sustainable careers
