Writing for Animation is a unique screenwriting form which leaves room for experimentation and creativity. In this course, we’ll discuss the differences and similarities between writing for animation and writing for live action. Students will complete a series pitch, beat sheet and outline for an 11-minute animation series which will be workshopped with their peers. We’ll discuss career building strategies and pitch strategies, portfolio building and networking.

 

Learning Outcomes – Participants Will:

  • Contextualizing animation writing terminology.
  • Reviewing formats, techniques and common practices in animation writing.
  • Learning the basics of how to build compelling characters, worlds and concepts for an animated show.
  • Constructing and practicing how to a pitch for an animated show.
  • Learning how to apply tools like act breakdowns, beat sheets and outlines to an 11 minute animated pilot format.

Requirements:

  • This is an online course. You must have a device with stable internet, and working camera and microphone.
  • Prior experience is not required.

Prerequisites:

Students are not required to have any previous training or experience.
